Order: Hymenoptera  Family:Encyrtidae
Common name / Category:Parasitoid of sugarcane scale insect Melanaspis glomerata

Adelencyrtus mayurai is a very common uniparental parasitoid of sugarcane scale insect Melanaspis glomerata (Green) which is a major pest of sugarcane in several states causing reduction in yield, sugar recovery and germination of canes.

Production procedure

Adelencyrtus mayurai culture is maintained in the insectary. After 30 to 35 days of (Melanaspis glomerata) scale infestation, the cane sets specially prepared are exposed to freshly emerged A. mayurai at a ratio of 100 parasitoids to 1500 scales. For feeding adult parasitoids pure honey streaks are provided. The parasitoids are collected daily by an aspirator connected to a vacuum pump starting 15 days after exposure. The day's collection is pooled and shipped as per requirement.
